Better help is on its way.
The Department of Health – CALABARZON on September 6 donated the first sea ambulance to the Rural Health Unit of the municipality of Panukulan.
The sea ambulance will serve as the medical transport for patients in far-flung island communities and geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA).
The patients will be brought to the Claro M. Recto Memorial Hospital, a 25-bed capacity health facility located in the town of Infanta, Quezon. DOH-CALABARZON noted that the sea ambulance can travel from Panukalan to Infanta at 45 minutes in good weather conditions.

According to Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo, the sea ambulance cost P3 million each. It was made possible through the Health Facilities Enhancement Program (HFEP) which aims to provide access to quality health care services to those living in island communities.
“We still have to furnish the needed medical equipment and emergency kits that will be placed inside the sea ambulance and we will endeavor to acquire them immediately in order to complete its emergency care services,” Janairo stated.

Seven more will be purchased to be distributed among Alabat, Calauag, Patnanungan, Perez, Quezon, and Polilio.
Janairo emphasized that the taxpayer’s money paved the way to the purchase of the sea ambulance and it will be used to improve the health care system.
