In August 2022, Netflix will kick off its “add a home” feature that requires patrons to pay for account usage in a different household for some Latin American countries.
The streaming service provider intends to mitigate the extensive account sharing ,which according to their announcement: “...undermines our long-term ability to invest in and improve our service.”
Moreover, Netflix’s new feature requires only one home per account thus the need of using the account in a different household comes at an expense besides the usual billing.
Also, the “add a home” option includes "travel" option which means that family members can watch while outdoors on their tablets, laptop, or mobile phones. Plus, through the "manage homes" setting, account owners can add or remove homes at their convenience.
Specifically, the included countries are Argentina, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras.
Changes in other countries are not yet confirmed until they “better understand what’s easiest for our members”, says Chengi Long, Netflix’s Product Innovation Director.
