The government has started the initial phase rollout of second booster shots to those aged 18 and above who are in the vulnerable sector or have doctor certified immunodeficiency.
According to the Department of Health, Yesterday, April 25, it's set to have a 2nd booster shot of COVID-19 vaccine, the Philippine children medical center in Quezon city, Dr. Jose Rodriguez memorial hospital (Tala) in Caloocan, Valenzuela Medical Center and the local government of Makati.
It is expected that more vaccination sites will also vaccinate the second dose booster shot in the coming days.
The DOH targets to provide additional protection to approximately 690,000 immunocompromised individuals with conditions such as the following:
- Immunodeficiency
- HIV
- Active cancer
- Transplant recipients
- Undergoing steroid treatment
- Bedridden
Earlier, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had already approved the second dose of booster shots for senior citizens, immunocompromised individuals, and healthcare workers.
For immunocompromised individuals, there must be a three-month interval from the last time they were vaccinated with the booster shot.
According to the latest figures released by the DOH, 66 million Filipinos already have a complete dose of the Covid-19 vaccine while 12 million have already received a booster shot.
