The administration of the second booster shot has been temporarily suspended while experts complete the study, according to the Department of Health (DOH).
The implementation of the second booster has been placed on hold until the Health Technology Assessment Council (HTAC) completes its review and issues its final recommendation.
"The NVOC will publish more details in the coming weeks," the health department added.
Meanwhile, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized "amendments" to the COVID-19 vaccine's "emergency use authorization (EUA)" last week to allow for the second booster shot.
This is for senior citizens, immunocompromised individuals, and health care workers who can now be vaccinated again four months after receiving their initial booster.
All EUA vaccines, with the exception of Gamaleya 's Sputnik V, can be given to children, according to the FDA.
