The general public may expect rotational brownout this upcoming summer season, including the day of the elections.
Luzon-wide brownouts are likely to happen this upcoming summer season, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) warned.
According to NGCP Spokesperson Cynthia Alabanza, the reserved electricity is reportedly scarce due to the rising amount of consumption every year, which is why the need to build more power plants is necessary.
Furthermore, the spokesperson informed that the electricity supply is only enough for the projected consumption in the upcoming season, but in case some power plants fail or experience errors, it may end up in red alert or power interruption.
She added that if the supply of power is scarce, and won’t be enough to fill our needs, the transmission and distribution companies are left with no choice but to implement rotational power interruptions, wherein there would be allotted hours in a day when citizens may lose their electricity.
NGCP also encouraged consumers to save and conserve the use of electricity.
On the other hand, Laban Konsyumer President Vic Dimagiba in a report by ABS-CBN called out to the Department of Energy and Energy Regulatory Commission to take action on the problem ahead so that rotational brownouts can be avoided, and people wouldn’t have to worry about a possible increase in the charges.
