Face shields are no longer mandatory in areas under alert levels 1 to 3, palace confirmed Monday, November 15.
President Rodrigo Duterte approved dropping the face shield policy per the recommendation of the national task force against COVID-19, according to the memorandum issued by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.
Meanwhile, areas under alert level 5, the highest in the government’s classification system, and areas under granular community lockdown are required to use face shields.
In areas under alert level 4, the local government and private institutions have the discretion on whether they will require the use of face shields.
The memorandum also noted that healthcare workers in medical and quarantine facility settings are still required to wear the protective equipment.
"The above protocols are without prejudice to the continuing mandatory use of face shields in medical and quarantine facilities, and the required use thereof by healthcare workers in healthcare settings,” the memo read.
