The Philippine government is targeting to inoculate 15 million individuals during its three-day vaccination drive, “Bayanihan, Bakunahan”, set from November 29 to December 1.
Per vaccine czar Carlito Galvez, the drive is aimed to fast-track the vaccination program across 17 regions in the country.
"As we ramp up the implementation of the Covid-19 vaccination nationwide, the national government shall facilitate the vaccination activities and expedite vaccination of individuals with zero-dose by devoting three days solely for vaccination activities nationwide," Galvez said.
The government will activate 4,000 to 5,000 vaccination centers under the program. It will also deploy government agencies, uniformed personnel to help in the vaccination drive.
Several schools, covered courts, gymnasiums, and other private establishments will be used as vaccination sites. Galvez added that different medical associations and private healthcare workers will be tapped to help in the inoculation.
The vaccination drive will also fall on Bonifacio Day, a regular holiday in the Philippines. The national task force has urged the Department of Health (DOH) to issue an order declaring the three-day drive as national holidays or National COVID-19 Vaccination Days, Galvez noted.
The vaccine czar explained that the program will have three phases: preparation phase to be held from November 1 to 28; execution phase for November 21 to 30l and sustainment operations from December 2 to 31.
“We will not end up with National Vaccination Day. We will sustain the effort up to December 31,” Galvez said.
Currently, close to 30 million Filipinos have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, while some 35 million individuals have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
