President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Lt. Gen. Dionardo Carlos as the next chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), the palace announced on Wednesday, November 10.
Per presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, Duterte has signed Carlos’ appointment, effective November 13. Carlos will be taking over the post of current PNP chief Guillermo Eleazar who will turn 56, the mandatory retirement age, on Saturday.
Currently PNP’s 4th in command, Carlos is a member of the PMA Maringal Class of 1988 and served as PNP Spokesperson under former chief Bato Dela Rosa.
He was also director of Aviation Security group and was assigned director of the Directorate for Integrated Police Operations Visayas.
Carlos will be the seventh PNP chief under President Rodrigo Duterte’s term.
