Columbia Pictures Philippines on Thursday, November 4 announced that the newest and much-awaited Spider-Man movie, No Way Home, will be released in the country on January 8, 2022— over three weeks after the global release on December 17.
Par for the course, Marvel fans who were disappointed with the news launched an online petition to release the movie in freshly reopened movie theaters in the Philippines at an earlier date.
In the petition, Marvel fan Lance Chua explained to Sony, Columbia Pictures Philippines, Marvel Studios, and Cinema Exhibitors Association of The Philippines that the delayed release of the movie “WILL DEFINITELY RUIN THE EXPERIENCE FOR US” as there will for sure be plenty of spoilers from the people who will be able to see it first.
“So, PLEASE, RELEASE THIS FILM, ON DECEMBER 17, here in the Philippines,” the petition read. “Delay ALL OTHER FILMS for all we care, just NOT Spiderman No Way Home.”
Moreover, fans on social media used the hashtag #DontDelayNoWayHomePH to push for an early release date.
“Delaying NWH means we have to stay away from the internet to avoid spoilers and wait for almost a month before we can watch the movie. It's not fair at all! Others get to celebrate early??? #DontDelayNoWayHomePH #SpiderManNowWayHome,” one fan wrote.
“#DontDelayNoWayHomePH C'mon, please don't delay the movie, me and my friend are excited about it being in the movies here in the ph but now it got delay? Please consider the fans and are also excited and please let us watch it at the same time other people do in that date,” another wrote.
One netizen also wrote, “Whoever works in Columbia Pictures PH should open their eyes. 3 week delay means spoilers, ruined theater experiences, and loss of revenue. #DontDelayNoWayHomePH #SpiderManNoWayHome.”
