The seven-day average daily cases in the country decreased to 6,416, with a reproduction number of 0.55, the lowest number since late July, an OCTA research fellow reported Thursday, October 21.
In a tweet, Dr. Guido David said that the reproduction numbers in both the national capital region (NCR) and nationwide are on a decrease. The current seven-day average in NCR is 1,156 with a reproduction number of 0.47.
Reproduction number refers to the number of persons one COVID-positive patient can infect. A number less than 1 means that the transmission of the virus is slow.
“Based on current trends, the country is tracking a less than 5k new cases (7-data average) by end of October with less than 1k in the NCR,” David said.

He noted that the numbers are expected to return to the pre-Delta surge level by the end of the month.
The country on Wednesday logged 3,656 fresh COVID-19 cases, also the lowest since mid-July. This raised the total number of cases in the country to 2,735,369 with 67,061 active infections.
