President Rodrigo Duterte will speak at the High-Level General Debate in the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Malacañang confirmed Sunday.
According to a statement from the Office of the President, Duterte will be speaking on the first day of the general debate on September 21 within the 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM window, New York time (September 22 between 4:00 AM to 6:00 PM Philippine Standard Time).
The Office added that the president will be speaking of “global issues of key concern, such as the universal access to COVID-19 vaccines, climate change, human rights, including the situation of migrant workers and refugees, and international and regional security developments.”
Incoming President of the 76th UNGA Session H.E. Abdulla Shahid of Maldives will be presiding over the High-Level General Debate which will follow a hybrid format of in-person and virtual attendance of delegates.
This year’s UNGA session will focus on the theme: “Building resilience through hope - to recover from COVID-19, rebuild sustainability, respond to the needs of the planet, respect the rights of the people, and revitalize the United Nations.”
