A day before her term ends, Vice President Leni Robredo..
Filipino actor, host, and comedian John "Sweet" Lapus on Sunday, September 19 reminded their fellow LGBTQ+ members to not forget the time when they were deemed as worse than animals.
Although they did not drop a name, netizens on Twitter are quick to assume that they were referring to Sen. Manny Pacquiao who earlier that day announced his presidential bid.
In 2016, then Sarangani Rep. Pacquiao was asked about his stand on same-sex marriage and blasted the community as a response.
Pacquiao then apologized for his remarks.
“I’m sorry for hurting people by comparing homosexuals to animals,” he wrote on Instagram. “Please forgive me for those I’ve hurt. I still stand on my belief that I’m against same sex marriage because of what the Bible says, but I’m not condemning LGBT. I love you all with the love of the Lord. God Bless you all and I’m praying for you.”
12 million strong
Lapus’ tweet has since gone viral, with over 44.3k likes as of writing. Most of the comments on the tweet agree with them.
A netizen also wrote: “As many as 12 million Filipinos belong to the LGBT community. You can make a huge difference. But first, register muna kayo then lets all fight for a Leni (with Sentri sana) victory in 2022.”
