Over 17 million Filipinos are now fully immunized against COVID-19, Malacañang confirmed Tuesday, September 14.
A total of 17,078,676 citizens have received full doses of COVID-19 shots, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque confirmed. Meanwhile, 22 million have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
This accounts for some 39.1 million COVID-19 shots administered in the country, 395,704 of which were distributed on Monday.
The government aims to inoculate some 77 million Filipinos by the end of the year to achieve herd immunity. The current number translates to about 22 percent of the target.
The Philippines is currently facing a surge in COVID-19 infections, breaching the 2.2 million mark. The country has the second-highest number of cases in southeast Asia.
