A must-have in every Filipino celebration, lumpiang shanghai proved to be a favorite not only among Pinoys but also worldwide cuisine critics.
Taste Atlas, a website that collates recipes and reviews of cuisines all over the world, dubbed lumpiang shanghai as the best Filipino food in its recent rankings. With a rating of 4.9, the deep-fried, crunchy snack shares the top spot with sinigang (rated 4.8) and tocino (rated 4.7).
“Lumpiang Shanghai is usually sold at numerous street stalls throughout the country, but it is also a staple dish served on special and festive occasions,” Taste Atlas wrote.
The website also recently dubbed the savory and sour soup, sinigang, as the best vegetable soup in the world.

Also on the list of the best Filipino dishes, falling under the “great” category are sisig, adobo, and lechon, which all scored a 4.0 and above. In the middle of the list, under the “ok” category are daing, pinangat, and torta.
Meanwhile, at the bottom of Taste Atlas’ ranking are balut, dinuguan, and pinipig, which all received a score lower than 3.5.
Taste Atlas features a wide catalog of cuisines from around the globe. The website ranks food and cuisine based on reviews of food experts and critics.
