TOKYO, Japan — North Korea has notified Japan of a plan..
Eleven doctors hired by the Department of Health (DOH) decided not to renew their contracts in the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), the hospital’s spokesperson said.
In an interview, PGH Spokesperson Jonas del Rosario confirmed that out of the 22 DOH-hired doctors, half decided to not renew their contracts. He clarified the earlier reports saying that the doctors resigned from their posts.
Del Rosario said the doctors may have personal reasons for not renewing their contracts, noting that it is a big loss for the hospital, which serves as the country’s primary COVID-19 referral facility.
“I can just hypothesize, maybe napagod na rin, maaring yung iba nagkakasakit, they probably look at the PGH, masyadong maraming trabaho,” the spokesperson told CNN Philippines.
The hospital has been facing manpower shortage as COVID-19 cases in the Philippines continue to surge. Some healthcare workers resigned previously while others were placed in quarantine.
To address this, Del Rosario said departments were requested to send some of their residents to help the Internal Medicine Department in handling COVID-19 patients.
Currently, 298 of 300 COVID-19 beds in PGH are occupied, 35 patients are in the emergency room, and over 100 more waiting to be admitted.
