Adolescents aged 12 to 17 may now be vaccinated against the coronavirus with Moderna’s vaccine.
The Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for the US-manufactured Moderna vaccine against COVID-19 on adolescents with ages 12 to 17 years old.
FDA chief Eric Domingo announced that the country’s vaccine expert panel, as well as the agency’s regulatory experts, have greenlighted the use of Moderna’s life-saving shots against the coronavirus for adolescents.
This news follows two weeks after the American firm applied for amendment of its former emergency use authorization.
Despite reports of rare occurrences of myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle), the FDA chief said that the dominance of the highly contagious Delta variant of COVID-19 in the country has pushed the experts to approve Moderna’s EUA application to include the age group in the country’s ongoing vaccination program.
