PARIS, France — The conflict between Israel and Hamas..
Amidst criticisms because of their ‘alarming’ COVID-19 forecasts, OCTA Research Group considered pausing their political surveys to focus on COVID-19 pandemic data analytics.
In an interview with One News/TV5, OCTA fellow and molecular biologist Fr. Nicanor Austriaco revealed that he proposed the temporary halt on OCTA’s political survey.
Austracio said that they are still discussing the matter, pointing out that it might be time for OCTA to focus on COVID-19 data to avoid conflict of interest.
Critics are calling for an investigation in the research group’s methodology, accusing them of alarming the public with their research-based COVID-19 predictions.
Austracio said that the group was originally formed to conduct data analysis on Philippine politics. But with the COVID-19 pandemic, OCTA decided to help in pandemic response through their expertise.
The OCTA fellow further said that they have invited colleagues who are willing to help them with data analysis and recommendations on the pandemic for the benefit of the Filipinos.
