PARIS, France — The conflict between Israel and Hamas..
One thing’s for sure, it’s better late than never. It’s about time for the UAAP to include a Girls' basketball tournament
All the lady hoopers in the house, raise your Kobes or Jordans, raise your ponytail, raise that arc, raise everything that can be raised because Sport in the Philippine scene is raising their game.
The UAAP or University Athletic Association of the Philippines will be holding a Girls basketball tournament alongside the Boys’ basketball tournament, which will be held this coming October. It will be a demo sport for this year’s UAAP Season 82.
Demo sport or demonstration sports are sports that are played for promotion, common in the Olympics but are present in other sporting events.
As of now, there will be four participating teams, these are Adamson University, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle-Zobel and the University of Santo Tomas. Though we are surely hopeful for the other schools to join in the future tournaments.
This will surely be the spark of a series of motivation and competitiveness in women’s basketball in the Philippines. Young girls dreaming of playing basketball in UAAP don’t need to wait until they’re eligible for college to play, they can start as early as high school.
It will make transitioning to College basketball easier as they get to taste a small chunk of the competition in the Junior league. Honing players at a very young age. At the same time, this will benefit women’s basketball team playing in international competition, representing the Philippines.
It will be overseen by Edith Boticario, the first-ever female Deputy Commissioner--- A former PBA referee and a FIBA-licensed official.
UAAP Season 82 will begin this coming September.
