The Philippines will be allowing the use of Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines for children aged 12 to 15, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) revealed.
According to FDA Director-General Eric Domingo, the agency will be amending the emergency use authorization (EUA) of Pfizer vaccines which was issued in January. Currently, Pfizer’s EUA clears the vaccine for use on individuals aged 16 and above.
Domingo said that Pfizer applied for amendment of its EUA on May 20 and experts have given “favorable” recommendations. He also noted that the FDA will be issuing the amendment of Pfizer EUA within the week.

The amendment in Pfizer’s EUA in the country came after the United States, earlier this month, allowed the use of the vaccine to children as young as 12 years old.
