Vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez during the Laging Handa press briefing on Tuesday, March 16 announced that the Philippines has procured 30 million doses of Novavax Covid-19 jabs.
"Maganda po ang naging kinalabasan ng pagpunta natin sa India. Na-secure natin yung 30 million doses ng Novavax," he said.
According to Galvez, the government already signed a supply agreement with the Serum Institute of India, albeit they are still waiting for the approval of its application for emergency use authorization (EUA) in the country.
The vaccines are scheduled to be delivered by the third and fourth quarters of the year.
More doses of vaccines from different manufacturers are slated to arrive in the country. Some 1.4 million doses of China’s Sinovac will arrive this month.
Moreover, 900,000 doses from AstraZeneca will arrive in late March or early April via the COVAX facility co-led by the World Health Organization.
Galvez also reported that as of 11 AM on Tuesday, about 216,794 medical front-liners and other healthcare workers have already been inoculated.
The Department of Health also said that of the 1,125,600 total vaccine doses in the country, 96% or 1,079,400 have already been distributed to 929 vaccination sites nationwide.
