Two barangays in Bontoc, Mountain Province have been placed under lockdown after a dozen cases of new COVID-19 variant were recorded, a regional health officer said.
“Currently, the LGU (local government unit) of Bontoc municipality implemented the lockdown of the concerned barangays,” Department of Health Cordillera Administrative Region (DOH-CAR) Director Ruby Constantino said.
The health officer also noted that they will consider implementing a stricter lockdown in the province if the cases in the municipality continue to increase.
“As per our meeting last night with the task group on the UK variant, if ever our health care utilization rate will continue to increase then they might recommend to the IATF for the changing of our quarantine status for the entire region from MGCQ (modified general community quarantine) to GCQ (general community quarantine),” she said.
A total of 12 UK variant COVID-19 cases were recorded in Bontoc, including minors aged 5 and 10 years old, Dr. Thea De Guzman from the Epidemiology Bureau said.
The 12 cases are among the 16 new UK variant cases recorded in the country, raising the total to 17.
