International luxury and lifestyle travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler named Cebu and Visayas Islands Best in Asia.
In its 2020 Readers’ Choice Awards participated by over 600,000 voters, Condé Nast Traveler ranked islands from different regions all over the world — Asia, Australia and the South Pacific, Caribbean and the Atlantic, Europe, North America, and the rest of the world.
Cebu and Visayas Islands took the number one spot in Asia.
“Located in the center of the Philippines, Cebu draws nearly 2 million travelers annually for its pristine beaches and diving off the island’s northern coast. Spanish and Roman Catholic influences permeate Cebu City; Basilica Minore del Santo Niño houses a small statue of Christ that was presented by Ferdinand Magellan,” the magazine wrote.
It also cited Kawasan Islands as a famous spot for both locals and tourists.
Palawan and Siargao Islands also made it to the list at fourth and fifth respectively. Boracay, which took the number one spot for best islands in Asia last year, is also listed at number six.
At number 3 is Ko Pha Ngan, Thailand; while Sri Lanka sits at number 2.
Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat called the recognition a “boost of confidence” to reopen the country’s tourism to travelers from around the world.
“The Philippines is indeed blessed with the best of nature, as exhibited by the consecutive accolades we are receiving from reputable and prestigious publications for our islands and beaches,” she said.
“This latest citation from CNT gives us in the Department of Tourism (DOT) a boost of confidence, as we continuously carry out our strategies to gradually reopen domestic tourism, to once again welcome travelers from other countries when things become better.”
