After months of being under GCQ, will Metro Manila finally move into the MGCQ status?
Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez announced on Wednesday that Metro Manila mayors will decide on Sunday if they will keep the general community quarantine (GCQ) status in the cities or to lower it to modified general community quarantine (MGCQ).
Olivarez, who also chairs the Metro Manila Council (MMC), mentioned that 17 mayors would conduct a meeting to deliberate if the district is ready for the lowest level of community quarantine, MGCQ, starting October 1.
Despite the downward trend in the number of COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region, Olivarez said that we cannot relax yet, and minimum health protocols should continue being implemented.
Olivarez said that local authorities should have a unified verdict in downgrading the quarantine status.
Earlier, the Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Ramon Lopez favors placing Metro Manila under MGCQ in order to allow more establishments to reopen and revive the economy.
