Commander of Ermita Police Station Lt. Col. Ariel Caramoan was relieved from his post yesterday, over the health protocol violations in the opening of the white sand portion of Manila Bay.
Philippine National Police Chief Camilo Cascolan ordered Caramoan's relief for failure to implement quarantine protocols and manage the crowd at the Manila Bay opening.
“As the immediate area commander, Police Lt. Col. Ariel Caramoan should have taken the initiative in planning and implementing strict security and health safety measures for the opening of the cleaned and beautified portion of the Manila Bay,” Joint Task Force COVID Shield Commander Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said.
“Caramoan could have prevented the quarantine protocol violations at the Manila Bay if there was prior planning and regular monitoring of the situation in the area," he added.
Police Lt. Col. Alex Daniel will take over Caramoan's post.
On Saturday, people flocked to see the opening of the artificial white sand portion Manila Bay. Photos circulating in social media show a lack of social distancing and violation of quarantine protocols, including the ban in mass gatherings and the wearing of face masks.
