Lawyer Rico Quicho filed a letter-complaint with the Department of Justice (DOJ) against Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, over alleged violations of quarantine protocols.
On Facebook, Atty. Quicho said he filed the letter-complaint via electronic mail, “detailing the clear facts and circumstances that establish his direct violation of RA No. 11332 and its implementing rules and other DOH regulations.”
The attorney said he referenced an online petition which gathered 200, 000 signatures.
“We are one with the Filipino people in condemning negligent and reckless acts which expose the public, especially our health workers to unnecessary risks,” Atty. Quicho said.
Atty. Quicho, an advocate of the rule of law, said senator Koko “blatantly violated laws, which put the lives and health of frontliners and even ordinary citizens at grave risk.”
“As a lawyer and advocate of the rule of law, I cannot in good conscience allow the reckless actions of Senator Koko Pimentel to be brushed aside so easily,” he continues.
It was on March 24 when Senator Pimentel breached his quarantine protocols after he went to Makati Medical Center to accompany his wife who is about to give birth to their first child, without informing the hospital personnel that he tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (covid-19).
“He has categorically admitted his breach without remorse. And yet because of his position, he is still not being made accountable,” said Atty. Quicho. “With this, I hope the DOJ will swiftly act and pursue legal actions against Senator Koko Pimentel. We trust that DOJ will be true to its commitment to the Filipino people to uphold the rule of law without fear or favor.”
