Siargao is one of the tourist destinations being closely monitored by the government following the closure and rehabilitation of Boracay Island in Aklan.
The Sugba Lagoon in Siargao, Surigao del Norte will be closed for rehabilitation, according to a tourist advisory released by the Department of Tourism CARAGA Region.
This 4,200-hectares tourist spot will be closed from January 10 to February 10.
Last February 18, the lagoon was also temporarily closed from the public for reasons such as repair and maintenance.
However, in a report by the Philippine Star, other tourist destinations in the Municipality of Del Carmen would still be open. These spots are the Mangrove Forest, Kawhagan Sand Bar, and Pamomoan Beach.
The entire island of Siargao was named as one of the “Best Holiday Destinations for 2020” by Condé Nast Traveler, an international publication. It described the island as “the tiny Philippine Island giving Bali a run for its money.”
